Rapper Maino is no longer a person of interest for police officials investigating a shooting incident backstage at T.I.´s Irving Plaza gig in New York last month (May16).
Initial reports suggested a feud between Maino and Troy Ave sparked the drama, which cost one man his life, but cops are convinced the star, who was onstage when shots rang out, was not involved in the tragedy - but officials have confirmed his girlfriend was injured.
"There´s a rapper named Maino. We don´t believe he was involved in the dispute," Chief of Detectives Robert K. Boyce told reporters. "It was his girlfriend that was shot."
Earlier this week (beg30May16), Maino´s girlfriend, Maggie Carrie Heckstall, shared an Instagram post from the hospital, writing, "I am out of surgery but still in the hospital... I am just focusing on recovery & trying to see my family."
Her lawyer, Emel McDowell, is reportedly planning to sue cops and Irving Plaza bosses for her treatment following the shooting incident, claiming investigators prevented her from seeing her family.
Maino has also taken to Instagram to deny reports of a feud with Troy Ave, who was also injured in the fracas.
He wrote: "For the last 5 years Troy Ave, his team and I have had a great working relationship. Not only have we performed and done several songs together but we´ve had many personal conversations about life our goals and efforts as musicians. Despite media reports to the contrary, there are No ´ongoing beefs´ or ´entourage issues´."
Troy Ave has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges connected to the shooting. His bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, was shot dead in the scuffle. Footage of the shooting, obtained by police, shows Troy Ave opening fire backstage, but he and many others insist he was acting in self-defense. Police are also reportedly seeking a second gunman.
