Live Nation concert promoters have scrapped a series of rap gigs at New York´s Irving Plaza and Gramercy Theater following last week´s (25May16) fatal shooting backstage at a T.I. concert.Performances by Joey Bada$$, Vince Staples and Mac Miller have all been canceled following the incident at the Plaza, which cost rapper Troy Ave´s bodyguard his life.A spokesperson for both venues tells Rolling Stone, "In light of last week´s tragic event, we are acting with an overabundance of caution and co-ordinating a going-forward strategy with the New York Police Department that may also include a curfew. Because these discussions with New York Police Department are ongoing, we will be postponing a few of our upcoming shows."
Concerts featuring Guns N´ Roses cover band Appetite for Destruction, Black Pistol Fire and YG have also been scrapped at Gramercy.
On Wednesday (01Jun16), Joey Bada$$ tweeted, and quickly deleted, a tweet suggesting the New York Police Department was behind the cancellation of his Thursday night (02Jun16) gig. An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed this was not the case.
Troy Ave has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following the shooting last week. He was one of three people injured during the incident and has been wheelchair bound since. Cops are reportedly on the hunt for a suspected second gunman, who may have fired the shot that killed the rapper´s minder.
