Fans were left disappointed after tickets for Phil Collins´ comeback tour sold out in seconds on Friday (21Oct16).The rock veteran, 65, who has not toured in 10 years and in 2011 announced he had quit music due to ill health, will play a five night residency at London´s Royal Albert Hall in June next year (17). He will also play two dates each at venues in Paris, France and Cologne, Germany.
While thousands of fans were desperate to see the former Genesis star in concert, tickets to all the shows quickly sold out, with many accusing ticket touts of snapping them up to resell at an inflated price.
Sure enough, tickets soon appeared on ticket reselling sites including Ticketmaster´s official reselling page Get Me In, where prices ranged from £290 ($353) to £2,200 ($2,682) .
Fans were quick to express their disappointment, with one writing on Twitter: "Gutted about not getting tickets for my dad to see #PhilCollins :( but tonnes of tickets on the resale site for £800... how is this fair?"
Another added: "Tickets for Phil Collins have been on sale for 3 mins and they’re already on resale on @GETMEIN. People are the worst."
Ticket touts have long been causing controversy in the music industry. Back in May (16), Little Mix and Mumford & Sons were among the stars who signed a petition urging the U.K. Government to enforce an amendment to the Consumer Rights Act, which will make it tougher for touts to buy tickets and sell them on for extortionate prices.
Meanwhile, Adele went one step further by offering to refund fans who had paid £25,000 ($30,481) for a pair of tickets to her London shows earlier this year (16).
"You´ve got all those terrible people selling tickets for £25,000 a pair. I hope no one paid that much. If you did I´ll pay you back," she told the packed out audience.
