Kind-hearted rapper Meek Mill is giving out 6,000 backpacks full of school supplies to kids in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The hip-hop star, 31, is teaming up with Puma, Fanatics sports apparel, United Legwear and upmarket Philadelphia department store Milano Di Rogue to donate the bags to kids for the new school term.
Ahead of the giveaway, Meek, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, told TMZ.com he was inspired to help Philadelphia´s children because of his own struggles while growing up.
"Those memories stay with me and that´s why I´m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids´ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies,” he said.
Elementary school kids will receive backpacks with pencil sharpeners, rulers, and crayons - while older high school pupils will get dry erase markers, notebooks, pens and glue sticks. He will apparently surprise some lucky kids by personally handing over their supplies on Wednesday (29Aug18).
Nicki Minaj´s ex, who was released from jail in April after serving five months for a violation of his probation stemming from a 2008 weapons charge, has become known as a Philadelphia philanthropist, and each Thanksgiving he hands out 1,000 turkeys to those in need.
