An affiliate of rapper Bobby Shmurda has been sentenced to over 98 years behind bars for a laundry list of gang activities in New York.
Rashid Derrisant, who has ties to the Shmurda-associated gang GS9, was charged with 22 counts, including conspiracy, assault, second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
His sentence was revealed in a New York City court on Tuesday (17May17), according to a statement from the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, Shmurda is facing a separate trial for his own part in GS9-related crimes. The 21-year-old has been locked up in New York since December, 2014, following his arrest during a police sting operation in Manhattan.
The hip-hop star, real name Ackquille Pollard, was charged with counts of conspiracy, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and more.
His trial has been delayed several times, but he is currently scheduled to appear in court in September (16).
The rap star filed a civil rights lawsuit against officers at the New York Police Department earlier this month (May16), claiming he was visiting a friend´s home in June, 2014, when police officers entered the building without a search warrant. In the lawsuit, the rapper claimed he has suffered permanent "nervous shock and mental anguish" because of the arrest.
