New information has surfaced regarding the death of music icon Prince.
According to details surfaced by Minnesota's Star Tribune, responding paramedics say the Grammy winner was likely dead for at least six hours before his body was found in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota.
As PEOPLE previously reported, sheriff's deputies received a 9:43 a.m. for medical attention – shortly after assistant Meron Berkure and longtime friend Kirk Johnson discovered his body. Less than 25 minutes later, Prince was pronounced dead.
Although an autopsy for the singer has been completed, a cause of death for the 57-year-old has not been revealed as state and federal investigators continue to piece together the details of his April 21 death.
Earlier this month, the Tribune reported Prince had Percocet in his system when he was found dead. Though the prescription opiate painkiller may not have played a role in his death, the news came one day after "prominent addiction specialistDr. Howard Kornfeld revealed he was contacted by Prince's representatives to treat him for a drug addiction.
Kornfeld sent his son Andrew to see Prince the day he was found dead to discuss treatment options for an addiction to prescription painkillers. Andrew was with Berkure and Johnson when they found Prince, and placed the 911 call.
