Christopher Biggins has been removed from the Celebrity Big Brother house after reportedly making offensive comments. The much-loved British actor was kicked off the show on Friday (05Aug16), after reports claimed he had made a joke about Nazi concentration camps to Jewish housemate Katie Waissel.
His contract with the reality show was terminated by U.K. TV network Channel 5, and it is expected he will lose his $196,000 appearance fee, British newspaper the Daily Mirror reports.
A representative for Channel 5 said on Friday, "Big Brother has taken the decision to remove Christopher Biggins from the Celebrity Big Brother house.
"Since entering Big Brother, he has made a number of comments capable of causing great offense to housemates and the viewing public. Big Brother does not tolerate offensive language capable of causing widespread offense. Christopher Biggins has left the house."
The comments, which the TV network chose not to air, reportedly concerned former The X Factor contestant Waissel, with Biggins said to have left her in tears when he allegedly made the offensive joke as the pair chatted.
Biggins´ agent Jonathan Shalit confirmed the actor had left the show, but insisted he would have wanted to intentionally upset his fellow housemates. "I can confirm that he would never intentionally cause offense," he told the newspaper. "If something was said in jest which caused offense then I am certain that was not his intention. Biggins is a much loved and wonderful man."
A transcript circulating on social media allegedly revealing the reason why he was removed from the house has been confirmed by a Celebrity Big Brother spokesperson as a fake.
"We can confirm that a transcript claiming to relate to Christopher Biggins´ removal from the CBB house is 100 per cent fake," they said.
The live eviction on Friday went ahead as planned, with host Emma Willis simply confirming Biggins had been removed from the house. Grant Bovey, ex-husband of TV presenter Anthea Turner, was the first celebrity evicted from Celebrity Big Brother.
