Mary Knowlton was one of two members of the public taking part in a community event in Florida last night who were randomly selected for a “shoot/don’t shoot” scenario. Witnesses said Knowlton was playing the victim in the exercise when she was shot with live ammunition by a police officer, who was playing a “bad guy”.
The victim was “mistakenly struck” with a live round during the first scenario the class faced, police chief Thomas Lewis said.
She was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, the department said.
