Cardi B And Post Malone Deemed Ineligible For Best New Artist Grammy

Cardi B and Post Malone will not be competing for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards as organizers have deemed them ineligible.
According to the Associated Press, Cardi has missed out because she earned two nominations for this year´s (18) Grammys - none of which were in the new artist category.
Her hit track Bodak Yellow received nods for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, and the Grammys´ current rules dictate that previous nominees cannot be named Best New Artist.
According to the Associated Press, the 27-year-old was put forward for the award at the 2018 bash, but was overlooked by members of America´s Recording Academy. Her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, did not come out until April (18) - three months after the ceremony took place.
Post Malone was also reportedly submitted for Best New Artist in 2018, but failed to garner a nomination. As he has never earned a Grammy nod, he could have competed for the prize next year, but top U.S. music industry figures reportedly met earlier this month (Oct18) and decided he´s had too much success with his 2016 debut Stoney, and his hits Congratulations and White Iverson.
The rules of the new artist section stipulate an act can be submitted a maximum of three times, as long as they have only released three albums or fewer than 30 tracks. Some artists have earned nominations with breakthrough second or third albums, including recent winners who were recognized for records other than their debut, Chance the Rapper, Bon Iver, and the late Amy Winehouse.
The Recording Academy recently invited 900 new music professionals to become voting members of their organization after this year´s awards were criticized for its lack of diversity. Alessia Cara, who won Best New Artist, was the only female winner in a major category. And rapper JAY-Z left empty-handed despite garnering eight nominations for his critically acclaimed 4:44 album.
