Mary J. Blige will be a part of the very first She Is The Music song camp.
Bringing together some of the top women songwriters currently working in music, the camp, founded by ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), will run from 17 until 19 October (18).
Mary is joined by Stacy Barthe, Ingrid Burley and Audra Mae, among others, who between them have written hits for Rihanna, Beyonce and Miranda Lambert.
She Is The Music, an industry-wide initiative, is aiming to increase opportunities for and empower female music creators.
"I´m looking forward to collaborating with these amazing women and to contribute to the goals of She Is The Music," Mary said in a statement. "We all have the power to create change. As we continue to lift each other up, we will be unstoppable."
Engineers Kesha Lee and Maria Elisa Ayerbe are also involved, with producer Ron Fair donating his Faircraft Studio in Nashville for the event.
She Is The Music was co-founded by Alicia Keys, Universal Music Publishing Group Chairman and CEO Jody Gerson, Grammy Award-winning engineer Ann Mincieli and William Morris Endeavor partner and head of East Coast Music Samantha Kirby in response to a recent report that found huge inequalities for female musicians.
